After living in the historic 1880’s homestead “Waimarie” on one of Napier Hill’s most prestigious streets, this client wanted to upgrade to a home with more modern comforts while still retaining the essence of what this location provides. After settling on a subdivision, this dwelling sits on the lawn of Waimarie and provides the same spectacular views of the Bay, Marine Parade and Cape Kidnappers.
The brief was to capture Waimarie in a modern sense, which was achieved through the simple gable rooflines, raking ceilings and a contemporary take on the decorative fretwork by utilising batten screening to areas of the exterior and interior. To really incorporate the old with the new, one of the original stained-glass windows from Waimarie has been reinstated into the new dwelling, which provides a beautiful light quality with a touch of nostalgia.
This home is a classic, timeless design that exudes an air of tranquility and gives the owners plenty of options for entertaining and relaxing.
